Laser Distance Sensor 2-400cm IP67
The DFRobot SEN0590 is a compact laser distance sensor in a fingernail-like format with a measuring range of 2 to 400 cm and IP67 protection against dust and water. The sensor was specifically developed to overcome the typical weaknesses of market-standard distance sensors: large size, slow response times, and low mounting adaptability. The response time is 19 to 38 ms, making it ideal for fast-response applications such as obstacle detection and proximity detection.
Features:
- Compact design comparable to a fingernail – easy integration into space-constrained enclosures, robots, and smart furniture applications
- Measuring range 2–400 cm with ±1 cm accuracy under 25 cm and IP67 protection against dust and complete immersion in water
- Fast response time 19–38 ms for fast-reacting obstacle detection and dynamic proximity detection
- I2C communication at 3.3–5 V operating voltage – plug-and-play with Arduino IO expansion boards, no soldering required
- Low power consumption: 2 mA standby current, less than 19 mA operating current for energy-efficient battery applications
- Operating temperature -15 to 60 °C and storage temperature -30 to 80 °C for indoor and outdoor applications
Application Examples:
- Obstacle detection and collision protection in autonomous robots, AGVs, and robotic arms in confined environments
- Smart furniture applications such as height-adjustable desks and automatically opening drawers with proximity detection
- Security systems and burglar alarm systems with compact, discreetly mountable laser detection module
- Industrial detection systems for level measurement, belt sorting, and product presence control
- IoT smart home applications for automatic lighting control and person detection at discreet measurement points
