Water Sensor / Level Indicator

This water sensor detects water or gives an indication of the fill level, for example as a water alarm in the basement, at the washing machine or on a water barrel. A transistor on the sensor amplifies the signal, which is read via an analog input. The deeper the contacts are in the water, the higher the analog voltage.

Features:

• When dry the sensor delivers 0; the value rises as the water level rises
• Calibrate the values for the specific setup
• Only the copper traces go into the water, the electronics must stay dry
• Continuous power accelerates corrosion: if possible, switch the sensor on only for the measurement, for example via a digital pin
• The Raspberry Pi needs an external analog-to-digital converter
