Gravity Analog Soil Moisture Sensor for Arduino
The soil moisture sensor from DFrobot features a nickel-gold coating, which boasts good oxidation resistance. The sensor uses the two probes to conduct electricity through the soil, and then reads the resistance to determine the moisture content. The more water, the better the soil conducts electricity (lower resistance), while dry soil conducts electricity less efficiently (higher resistance). This way, the sensor can alert you, for example, when it's time to water the plants. The sensor can be connected to an Arduino via a 3-pin connection to build a comprehensive moisture monitoring system.
