The Home Assistant Connect ZBT-2 is a powerful USB adapter for wireless communication with Zigbee and Thread devices in the smart home. The device is based on the latest generation Silicon Labs MG24 chip and offers a fourfold higher transmission speed with 460800 baud compared to the previous model. An ESP32-S3 serves as a USB-serial bridge, providing additional expansion possibilities. The optimized external antenna with a height of 164 mm and 4.16 dBi gain ensures reliable omnidirectional radio coverage in the 2.4 GHz band. The adapter supports either Zigbee 3.0 or Thread, with simultaneous operation of both protocols deliberately not implemented to ensure maximum stability. Through Thread, Matter-certified devices can also be directly connected to Home Assistant. Setup is completed in a few minutes thanks to the integrated setup assistant, and existing networks can be migrated from other adapters. The housing made of white and semi-transparent polycarbonate blends discreetly into any living environment. The open design without clips or gluing allows easy access to internal components for hobbyists and developers. With every purchase, the Open Home Foundation, which supports projects like Home Assistant and ESPHome, is supported.
