The Seeed Studio XIAO W5500 Ethernet Adapter V1.2 is a compact development board based on the XIAO ESP32-S3 Plus platform, offering wired Ethernet connectivity via the reliable WIZnet W5500 Ethernet controller. The board features an integrated, isolated Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) module compliant with IEEE 802.3af, enabling power delivery directly through the Ethernet cable. A TPS563201-based buck converter efficiently transforms the 12V PoE input voltage into a stable 5V supply for the microcontroller. Alternatively, the board can be powered via the USB-C port with 5V if a PoE-capable switch is unavailable. The RJ45 port supports Ethernet connections at 10 or 100 Mbit/s and provides access to common TCP/IP protocols such as TCP, UDP, ICMP, IPv4, ARP, IGMP, and PPPoE. With bidirectional I/O outputs, the board can be flexibly expanded with sensors and peripheral devices. A 2.4 GHz dipole antenna with 2.81 dBi gain enables additional wireless communication via the integrated ESP32-S3. The board comes in a white 3D-printed enclosure and features a power LED, a user-programmable LED, and a reset button. Programming is done via the Arduino IDE with the ESP32 Arduino Ethernet Library, including extensive code examples for Ethernet event logging, web servers, and camera streaming.
