ePLA-LW Black Lightweight Filament 1.75mm 1Kg eSun

This is a filament specifically developed by eSun for model aircraft and drone construction. The filament is foamed at elevated print temperatures and thus achieves a much smaller density than conventional PLA. At print temperatures below 210°C, it behaves very similar to PLA. At print temperatures from 210-270°C, the material starts to foam during printing, thus increasing its volume. The maximum volume is reached at about 270°C and constitutes 220% of a normal PLA roll. The achieved density is therefore 0.54g/cm3. At the same time, the extrusion rate must be reduced. eSUN recommends approx. 45% at the maximum temperature of 260°C. If you print with 250°C, the extrusion rate must be 50% or factor 0.5 so that you achieve a volume of 200%.

Properties ePLA-LW:

Low density up to 0.54g/cm3 at a print temperature of 260°C
A volume ratio of up to 220% at 260°C print temperature
Very good layer adhesion, the filament breaks into large pieces, making a broken wing easy to repair.
It paints very well, the color adheres superbly to the print surface.
Excellent printability. No warping problem even with large models.

Tips for printing with ePLA-LW:

Use the same print speed for all layers. Turn off the print speed reduction feature to keep the foam ratio of all layers constant.
Be careful with the print temperature. Most entry-level printers start to clog when printing for a longer time at over 260°C. If you want to utilize the maximum foam ratio, make sure your printer is designed for such temperatures.
It's normal for the filament to turn yellowish at very high temperatures. To prevent this effect, you can slightly lower the printing temperature, but you will have to accept a lower foam ratio.
The foam ratio depends on the print temperature, the print speed, the size of the melt chamber in the nozzle, ambient and print bed temperature, and humidity. Experiment with all these parameters to achieve your desired print ratios.
Increased stringing is normal with ePLA-LW. It is recommended to print in vase mode to reduce this as much as possible.
