The Shelly BLU Distance is an intelligent Bluetooth ultrasonic sensor that measures distances up to 5 meters precisely. It is ideal for monitoring liquid levels (e.g., in water tanks) or solids and for obstacle detection, such as detecting parking vehicles. The battery-powered device operates with a 3.6 V lithium battery for up to four years, making it extremely low-maintenance. It communicates via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE 5.0) and can be integrated into the Shelly Smart Control App. A Shelly BLU Gateway or a compatible Shelly Plus/Pro device is required as a hub for app control. The measurement interval can be flexibly adjusted between 5 seconds and 300 seconds (default 30 s), allowing data updates to be tailored to each requirement. An integrated accelerometer detects shocks and immediately performs a measurement upon vibration to instantly record changes. Additionally, four predefined measurement profiles are available to optimally adapt the measuring range to the application and save energy. The compact sensor is protected against dust and splashing water according to IP64 protection class and fits into an opening of only 36 mm in diameter, facilitating installation even in tight spaces or containers. The app allows real-time monitoring of measurement data and setting up automations with other Shelly devices – for example, activating a pump at low water levels or triggering lights and alarms upon vehicle detection.
