M5Stack Unit MQ-5 Gas STM32G030
The M5Stack Unit MQ module is a sensor component for detecting combustible gases, based on the semiconductor gas sensor MQ-5 and containing an integrated STM32G030 microcontroller. It is primarily used to reliably detect gases such as propane and methane in the environment. The module is connected to a host controller (e.g., an M5Stack Core or Arduino) via a Grove-compatible I2C interface, making integration into existing projects very easy. Various measurements can be read digitally, including the internal reference voltage, sensor output voltage, 12-bit and 8-bit ADC raw data, firmware version, and the temperature of the built-in thermistor. The integrated microcontroller processes the sensor data and provides it to the host system, significantly simplifying the use of the module. Two heating modes are available to keep the sensor at optimal operating temperature. In continuous heating mode, the sensor heats up quickly and provides prompt measurements. In intermittent heating mode, the heating intervals can be flexibly adjusted to minimize energy consumption. Thanks to these options, the module can be used for both quick measurements and energy-efficient applications. Overall, the Unit MQ is suitable for a wide range of safety and monitoring applications – from smart home systems for gas leak detection to air quality monitoring to industrial safety.
Features:
- Integrated STM32G030 microcontroller for standalone control of the sensor module.
- Communication via an I2C interface (standard address 0x11, configurable) for easy connection to a host.
- Supports detection of various combustible gases (e.g., liquefied petroleum gas LPG and methane).
- Two heating modes available: continuous heating mode for quick response times and interval heating mode for energy-efficient operation.
- Integrated thermistor for monitoring the sensor temperature.
- Internal reference voltage and sensor output voltage can be read for calibration and diagnostic purposes.
- Standardized MQ sensor interface, compatible with other MQ sensors (MQ-2, MQ-3, MQ-7, MQ-135, etc.).
- Supports development platforms such as Arduino and UiFlow2 for easy programming.
