SparkFun Nano Power Timer - TPL5110

The SparkFun Nano Timer is suitable for controlling the power supply of a microcontroller on a timed basis. Compared to the DeepSleep of the microcontroller, this version has the advantage that the TPL5110 consumes only 35nA of power and can be used for 3.3V and 5V microcontrollers. The SparkFun Nano Power Timer runs at minimal power consumption and turns on your Arduino project after a certain time. Once all data from sensors has been evaluated and processed, the microcontroller can tell the Nano Power Timer to switch off the power. The shutdown is performed via an output on the microcontroller that is connected to the Nano Timer. The time intervals for turning on the TPL5110 are configured by using resistors. 

There is a 6-pin DIP switch on the board for time setting to select one of the five pre-installed resistors. There is no resistor installed for the sixth switch, but it is routed to a solder pad where you can solder your own PTH (or SMD) resistor. 

In addition, you can select more than one resistor via the DIP switch, to parallel connect the resistors (up to 26 options without the custom resistor). In the Sparkfun Hookup Guide, you will find a nice overview of the total resistance and the corresponding delay for each combination. The Nano Power Timer can handle voltages between 1.8V and 5.5V and currents up to 1.1A for times from 100ms to two hours (preconfigured settings via DIP switches range from 30s to 2h). On the board there is also a button that can wake up your project regardless of the shutdown time. This is very helpful for testing and debugging.
